My friend has a term life insurance policy that is less than 2 years old. She entered the hospital recently for a newly diagnosed bipolar disorder and had admitted to thoughts of *******. Within 2 months of her stay and diagnosis, her term life insurance policy was canceled by the insurance company for reasons of risk. Can they legally do this? I read the policy, but am unclear whether they have the right to do this. Thanks.

The policy is a term life that is $20 a month and the most it will pay is 2000. in 18 years. It is for $100,000 and they are listed as the beneficiaries. The insurance company called our house and wanted the names of the children’s doctors. I asked what good what that do if they don’t have permission to get our records and they said they had my husband’s signature. He called and asked to see it and they told him no. He told them he never signed anything and they said they didn’t care. They had what they needed. He called his mother and she told him they signed it and they did it for the kids. He said they could have put $20 amonth into the bank and come out with much more and it sounds like the only one that could really benefit is them if something happens to the kids. Both his parents are college graduates and own 3 businesses. It doesn’t make sense and they said there is nothing we can do ? What would you do?

is it the same as variable insurance wherein you can increase or decrease your insurance coverage for the same premium or universal life have a fix premium for a given age and amount and if you want to increase your coverage, you just add a yearly term insurance? How do you increase its coverage? Will it affects the premium if you want additional coverage? I understand variable life insurance has a range of minimum to maximum coverages for a given premium, is it the same with universal life?please explain in details how the entire process works.

I recently applied for life insurance through Zander Insurance recommended on the Dave Ramsey show (with Prudential as the underwriter) and my application was rejected on the basis of my refusal to sign an unaltered waiver granting Zander, Prudential and any other 3rd parties affiliated with them from sharing my medical information with the Medical Information Bureau and any other parties without my consent.
I completed a physical as required and I completely understand the insurance companies need to access and share that information with all the parties associated with underwriting my policy. What I don’t understand is the need to share that information with other parties who are not directly involved in underwriting my policy. Has anyone ever received a term life insurance policy without waiving their right to privacy in these matters? Can anyone offer any advice?
Mbrcatz – you fail to recognize I am granting full access to all my records to the company I am applying with. I signed the waiver. I just crossed out and initialized the line that gave them permission to share my information with other insurance companies thru the MIB.
Mr. Insurance Pickle – the line that really concerns me is “When a company presents you a form and tells you its required ….. its required,” Fortunately we still live in the United States of America and people who don’t think like sheep still have choices. The form might be required, but surely someone at Prudential or another insurance company recognizes the value of taking my money after they have done their do diligence and given me a physical and checked my medical records.
Where is the wisdom in jeopardizing my future insurance applications by signing away my right to privacy and allowing them to share my information with other insurance companies. I haven’t even been given the results of my physical yet.

I am looking to get life insurance for my wife and I. I have looked through tons of plans but honestly I do not know what I should get.
We have a house and a 30 yr mortgage, and I was told to get a 30 yr. term life insurance policy. But they are all around 50.00 per month. Does anyone know of a good, relatively inexpensive place to get life insurance?
