Year1-100%toward premium, yr.2-7- 75%, after yr.7 100%.Started at age 21.5, soon to be 24.Paying $100/mo., so estimate $1700-2000 paid into it so far. It’s 20year policy, no fees after year10, otherwise 5%withdrawal fee.Didn’t know much about it at the time, but been thinking to cancel policy, cut my losses(over$1500/current value$250), and take that $100mo. to low-risk mutual fund with my bank(USAA).Husband is miltary& has SGLI, FSGLI,7yr.term/$50,000.He’s 23 with 5 yrs. in so far&plans to retire in military.I have 1yr. to finsh degree, no kids yet(waiting 3-5 years),&work after I graduate until then.No major bills except new car&he deploys soon.Do you think I should cancel policy and invest$100 into my mutual fund(used as short term savings).Do you think I should get term life insurance with USAA?I am trying to learn more about insurance &investments, any suggestions?I recently opened Roth IRA$20/mo. medium risk. What would you recommend?
SGLI is $400,000 & Family SGLI, not sure. the $50,000 is separate from military and is term life insurnace for 7 years. No home mortgage. Only debt is cars, one in which we are selling since he’s deploying anyway. Braces are interest free at $2K left. Car just recently bought is $20K. Rent for me will be under $500 for everything, and he is going to be making Hawaii BAH while deployed among other extra pay. We are thinking of putting $ in Savings deposit program@10%.I have to look into it, also thrift savings plan(seems to be a 401k like plan, matched by employer). I have more ‘homework’ to do. Thanks for comments thus far.

I have also been prescribed both Wellbutrin and Zoloft for the past several years…Does that mean that “I’ve been diagnosed with a ‘Mental Illness’ as so stated on many Term Insurance Questionaires? It seems that nearly 1 out of 3 adults are now on some sort of SSRI antidepressant, but I don’t think they would all be considered ‘mentally ill’ by their physicians….Heck, everyone is a little depressed these days.
I’m unemployed, near-penniless and am having my home repossessed next month after scraping up the last of my retirement accounts’ balances to pay this month’s payment, so I’d like to know that if I had to, I could somehow “take one for the team” so that I could leave my wife and only child (just 8 month’s old) with something.

I got some helpful advice relating to long term care insurance. A follow-on question: Is there any reason for a 77 year old widow in good health to purchase life insurance? I think of life insurance being required for people on whom others rely for support/income. But if nobody is relying on your income, is there any reason to buy insurance at this late stage? Any reason to have life insurance as part of your estate?
Thanks.

They didn’t send my annual renewal to the correct address, I realized it was unpaid requested reinstatement 3 months…they refused because of my weight. It was the same 4 years ago when they accepted me…my agent says oh well, we’ll get another. Is this legal?
didn’t my agent get a cancelation notice?
so what does the agent get paid a commission for? I thought it was customer service. I recently discovered a home’s insurance had lapsed 5 months ago (we’re the mortgage holder) no one notified the owner or us that it was not insured…the homeowner had no idea they had canceled him but the agent claimed he knew. No one could explain why we weren’t notified. something is wrong here… companies can be sloppy, employees ***** it up and no one is accountable.
I notified them for 3 years of the new address on the little paper they send you to note changes. I’m not sure why no one changes my address when I asked them and I’m not sure where all my mail went if not back to the sender. My agent is the same agent for the homeowner they did NOT notify me, I just happened to call and ask. Guess I need a new agent after 30 years for my 6 homes and business insurance.
yesterday my agent called to say usf denied sending me a refusal letter… so I faxed it to her. I requested a refund of the 3 years I did pay since they weren’t insuring me cause of my weight.

I’m a 22 year-old, healthy male(don’t smoke or do anything considered dangerous), who lives with my Dad. My Dad’s employer only pays $10,000 to him if something happened to me. I’d like to get a life insurance plan where I can make my Dad the beneficary. I’ve been told Term Life would be my best, but was hoping other answers. Thanks for the help.

My husband and I are both 23 years old and we just purchased a home. We have been under pressure from our Insurance Agent and our Mortgage broker to obtain Life Insurance in case something happens to one of us.
We would like to have coverage in case something happens. I know the importance of Life Insurance, as my mom was killed in a car accident when she was only 38. So, we want to be protected, and we want our house to be safe.
We are pretty much clueless when it comes to Insurance policies. I ALREADY LOOKED UP THE INFO ON WIKIPEDIA, SO PLEASE DON’T GIVE ME MORE OF THAT. I want opinions on what the best kind of Life Insurance is for us.
Term (but if it is a 30 year term, does that mean when we are for example 54 and something happens after the 30 years, we aren’t covered???) or Permanant (whole life, and others). We didn’t like the decreasing term policy our agent showed us. We have gotten 2 quotes for Term Life.
Help us make an informed decision!!! Please!
Dan, I don’t have your email address!!!
